Petition for Dog Friendly Restaurant Patios

by Toronto Dog on August 18th, 2009

The organizer of Urban Dog Toronto (a Toronto based Facebook group for dog lovers) has organized an online petition to allow dogs on the patios of Toronto restaurants.

The Ontario Food Premises Regulation specifies that no live animals are allow in food premises. In addition, the health policy in Toronto specifies that if a patio is enclosed or fenced, with table service, it’s designated as part of the food premise and no live animals are therefore allowed. Currently, dogs are only allowed in outdoor areas  where the operator of an establishment has put tables and chairs out but no table service is included.  This includes spaces such as those outside of many coffee shops.  Otherwise, the dogs can accompany diners to outdoor patios but must remain outside of the patio railing.

The online petition can be found here.
