City may allow dogs back at beaches
As part of the city’s efforts to meet the international Blue Flag standard, which designates that beaches are safe for swimming, city council voted last February to ban all dogs year-round on 11 city beaches.
The city’s parks and environment committee voted yesterday to recommend allowing dogs to roam off-leash during the winter at three city beaches. If council approves the change, dogs could run off-leash south of the snow fence on the Kew, Balmy and Woodbine beaches between Nov. 1 and March 3.
