Spot-on flea treatment melts plastic, no really
This certainly falls under the bizarre and scary. A dog in Ontario became stuck in his crate after an application of a popular flea control treatment Advantage.
Residue from the product, which was applied between the poodle’s shoulders, came in contact with the plastic base of the animal’s crate, dissolving the plastic and causing it to adhere to the dog’s belly. Bayer, the manufacturer of Advantage confirmed that Advantage contains benzyl alcohol, which is known to react with certain plastics.
The dog was freed by his owner and taken to North Town Veterinary Hospital. Following the advice of representatives at Bayer, the dog’s veterinarian Dr.Dhaliwal, removed the remaining plastic still fused to the dog’s body using the contents of another two tubes of Advantage. The medication melted the plastic instantly.
Makes you really wonder about the things we expose our dogs to. This story appeared in the Veterinary Information Network News, click here to read the full article.
