The off leash area is fully fenced in and has it’s own parking lot. It is located behind the Sunnybrook Hospital, near the Sunnybrook Riding Stables. The parking lot can be accessed by car only through the Hospital. Otherwise you can drive into Sunnybrook park through the Leslie St entrance and park in the large parking lot near the horse stables, then walk to the off leash area across the West Don River through a pedestrian bridge. The off leash area can also be accessed by foot by walking down a paved path located near the end of Brentcliffe Rd.
The fencing around the dog park is constructed of wires attached to wooden poles. The gaps between the wires are lather large, and smaller dogs can easily get through this fence. The dog park is accessible through 2 gates located on opposite sides of the fenced in area. One near the parking lot and one directly opposite at the south end. The gates have simple latching mechanisms. This park does not have a double gate safety entrance area. If you have a dog that runs away and could potentially get through the fencing, this may not be the park where your dog can safely be let off the leash.
The off leash area includes a few benches, trees, and trash bins. Being located in the middle of Sunnybrook park, it is surrounded by beautiful forested areas. There are a number of hiking paths nearby.

Recently my husband and I took my young kids for a walk north of the off leash area in sunnybrook, where there is a trail on which dogs are required by law to be on a leash. Not only were there a lot of dogs off leash there, but there was one dog who charged and threatened my daughter. I would encourage all who take their dogs on the trail to put them on a leash. It was an extremely tense moment for all of us. We all like dogs a lot, and both my husband and I grew up with dogs, but the dog in question should have been reined in.
Please take head of the by-laws so we can all enjoy the trail!
thanks,
Karen
